'Foreign Accent': a unique, local, sound
Foreign Accent wove a spell of dark mystery with their rock infused Hungarian folk songs on 13 April. Moving harmonies combined with creative rhythms and electronic textures to keep toes tapping.
The band is based in Nottingham. Janos Fratanolo, a gentle giant, introduced with his evident passion for the poetry and songs and played guitar with precise fluidity; Anita Fratanolo sang with emotion, evoking shades of Maddy Prior and Sandy Denny. How Roland Varnyu, managed to create a full drum set sound with a simple box and foot tambourine defies belief whilst Dalma Demeny gave excellent support on violin, keyboard. and vocals. John Taylor mesmerised the audience with his gyrating hip movements and melodic bass playing.
For those who enjoy musical composition the set was a varied delight though the lack of an English translation was a slight frustration for those who love to hear the words. AC
